The Highlands

The Highlands is a Virtual Production ready environment set I am creating in Unreal Engine 5 and Blender as a part of my Honours Project at Abertay University, Scotland. It showcases how vast similar to life terrain can be created using real-life height map data, the implementation of vertex painting as the main texturing method and the application of the environment on a LED Wall.

Initial Height Map test. The heightmaps were taken from Heightmapper in order to replicate real life terrain. The intital maps had colour banding resulting in excessively terraced terrain

The colour banding issue was resolved using World Machine to blur out the height map data. The new maps were reimported in Unreal Engine to get a better result
